Duke Ronway is the leader of the Walsta Liberation Army, a group fighting for
its freedom in a war against the Gargastan Kingdom. He is known for his
charisma and organizational ability, and is very popular among the Walstanians
at first. However, as a desperate move to rally Walstanian support, he ordered
his men to massacre the non-complying villagers of Baramus. He dies in a
different way in each game...
In the L game, he gets a bit reckless and ignores the
advice of Leonard, his chief advisor. After a few victories around Baramus
and Ashton, Ronway decides to clash with the much larger Gargastan Army
directly, and sends a lot of his men to an almost certain defeat. After
continual protests from Leonard, Ronway dismisses the Knight, and sends Denim
and his group to ask the Roslolians for assistance. At Rime, Denim runs into
Leonard, who persuades him to return to Amorika and assassinate the
now-corrupted leader of the Walstanians, Duke Ronway. At Amorika, Leonard
assassinates Ronway and then tries to assassinate Denim, but fails. The
Liberation Army is then in the control of Denim and Vice.
In Chapter 2C, Ronway's plan with the Baramus massacre
seems to work a lot better--Ronway defeats and executes the leader of the
Gargastans, Cardinal Barbatos. Everything seems to work well, until Denim and
his army storm Amorika. After a fight with Vice, Denim is given a chance to
rejoin the Liberation Army. If he refuses, Duke Ronway becomes furious with
Denim's rebellion and orders Leonard to hunt him down (Chapter 3C). In this
game, Duke Ronway also decides to seek help from the Dark Knights, and goes
to meet with Lans Tartare in Rime. However, a group of Bacrumese Knights led
by Vice shows up and surrounds the building. Ronway is called by Vice, who
betrays and kills him. Lans Tartare escapes with the help of Oz and Ozma,
however...
If Denim rejoins the Liberation Army when given the
chance, Duke Ronway actually returns to being a good leader with the people's
support once again. As a result of Denim's return to the Liberation Army, Vice
leaves the Liberation Army; Duke Ronway puts a bounty on his head, claiming
that Vice is a dangerous man who lives only to satisfy his own bloodlust. He
keeps the bounty on Vice's head, despite protests from Denim, Kachua, and
Leonard. Although Vice was believed to have joined the Valeria Liberation
Front, Denim finds him at Coritani, running away from the Gargastan soldiers.
Denim saves Vice, but Vice escapes only to show up at Rime later on, where
Duke Ronway is holding the Dark Knight Balzepho captive, in preparation of a
direct attack on Fiduc Castle. However, Ozma rescues Balzepho, creating just
enough of a diversion to Leonard for a battered and bloody Vice to take Duke
Ronway hostage. After a short dialogue, Vice stabs Ronway and he dies.
Ronway's Knights kill Vice on the spot, and the Liberation Army is left in the
hands of Denim and Leonard...
